Why Is My Transfer to Nigeria Delayed / Pending? Fast Fix (2026)

LemFi, Sendwave, Wise, Remitly and TapTap Send: Why Your UK & USA Transfer to Nigeria Is Stuck on Pending and How to Fix It in 24 Hours

If you sent money home and it's still showing "pending," I know how that feels. Your phone is ringing, mama is asking "have you sent it?", and you're staring at the app not understanding why the money hasn't moved.

Breathe. In almost every case, pending does not mean lost. It usually means the app or the bank is still checking something.

As founder of UK to Naija Guide, I am based in Nigeria, so I have not personally sent money from the UK or USA side myself. What I did instead: I spoke with 12 Nigerians in London, Manchester, and Houston who use LemFi, Sendwave, Wise, Remitly, and TapTap Send regularly, I read through the official help centers of each app, and I went through real complaints on Trustpilot and Reddit to see what actually causes delays and what actually fixes them. This post is what I found.

Man worried checking phone after transfer to Nigeria is pending

7 Common Reasons Your Transfer to Nigeria Is Delayed (For All Apps)

Before we go app by app, these reasons apply no matter which one you used:

  • Wrong recipient details. One wrong digit in the account number, or a name that doesn't match the bank record exactly, is the number one reason transfers stall.
  • First-time or unusually large transfer. Sending more than you normally do, or using a new app for the first time, often triggers an automatic check.
  • Compliance / anti-money-laundering review. This is standard, not personal. Nigeria is a high-volume corridor, so extra checks are common.
  • Weekend or public holiday. Nigerian banks and UK/US banks don't all process on Saturday and Sunday, so weekend transfers often land Monday.
  • Card or bank declined the payment. Sometimes your own bank blocks the transaction as a fraud precaution, without telling you.
  • Technical issue between the app and the partner bank. Rare, but it happens — the money is safe, it's just stuck in the pipe.
  • App-wide outage. Also rare, but all these apps occasionally have short system issues affecting many users at once, not just you.

LemFi Transfer Pending - How Long & How to Fix

According to LemFi's own support pages, a transfer that shows "In Progress" is usually still normal and should change to "Successful" or "Failed" within 24 hours.

Common reasons LemFi told users their transfer was delayed:

  • Manual review for regulatory compliance or security
  • A communication delay with their partner bank
  • A request for ID or proof of funds

How to fix it:

  1. Open the app, tap Transactions, and check the exact status.
  2. If it's under 24 hours, wait — this is normal, no action needed.
  3. If it's past 24 hours, go to Help → Report an Issue inside the app.
  4. You can also email support@lemfi.com with your transaction details.

One Reddit user said their transfer cleared the moment they replied to LemFi's ID request — so don't ignore any message from them.

Sendwave Transfer Delayed - How to Fix

In my research, Sendwave delays most often trace back to the card or the account, not the app itself.

Common causes:

  • Expired card, or not enough funds on the card
  • Your own bank blocking the international transaction
  • Account flagged for a routine review, which can take longer if documents are needed
  • According to user reports, debit card payments sometimes see a 4-5 day delay during extra security review

How to fix it:

  1. Check your transfer history — is it "pending," "canceled," or "completed"?
  2. Confirm your card hasn't expired and has enough balance.
  3. Call your own bank to check they haven't blocked the payment — this happens more than people expect.
  4. Use Sendwave's 24/7 in-app chat — this is the fastest way to reach them.
  5. If your account is "under review," reply to any document request quickly and don't keep retrying the transfer, as that can slow things down further.

Wise Transfer to Nigeria Pending - How to Fix

Wise transfers to Nigeria typically take 1 to 3 business days, depending on the receiving bank.

Common causes of delay, based on Wise's own help content:

  • Wrong recipient details — Wise needs the name in English characters, the correct bank code, and the exact 10-digit NUBAN account number
  • Compliance or verification checks, especially for larger transfers
  • The receiving bank's own processing time, which Wise cannot control
  • Weekends and public holidays on either side

How to fix it:

  1. Log in and check your Transfer history for the current status.
  2. Check your email (and spam folder) — Wise usually emails if they need something from you.
  3. Double-check the recipient's bank code and account number were entered correctly.
  4. Use the in-app chat for the fastest response, especially if it's been more than 3 business days.

Remitly Transfer Delayed (Economy vs Express) - How to Fix

This one is important: if you chose Economy to save on fees, it is naturally slower than Express. What feels like a "delay" is sometimes just the delivery speed you picked.

But there's a Nigeria-specific detail worth knowing: based on my research, Remitly's ID verification (a photo ID plus a selfie) is automatically triggered on a sender's first transfer above $1,000, or to higher-risk corridors — and Nigeria is one of them. This is one of the most common reasons Remitly transfers to Nigeria get held.

How to fix it:

  1. Open the app — if there's an "Action needed" banner at the top, that's almost always the cause. Follow it.
  2. If asked for ID: upload a clear photo of your passport or driving licence plus a selfie. This usually clears in around 15 minutes automatically, or up to 24 hours if reviewed manually.
  3. If asked about source of funds (common on larger or unusual transfers): reply in the in-app chat with a short explanation — paycheck, savings, gift — and attach a matching bank statement. This tends to clear in 2 to 4 hours.
  4. If the tracker says "Delivered" but your family hasn't seen it, tap Help with this transfer → Where are the funds? to reach a specialist directly.
  5. Remitly also promises your money arrives by the time shown, or your fee gets refunded — worth checking if you qualify.

TapTap Send Pending - How to Fix

First, reassurance: according to TapTap Send's own help pages, your funds are only ever "authorised and held" by your bank — they are not actually taken from you unless the transfer succeeds.

Common causes:

  • Your account needs ID and proof of address to lift sending limits — this is the most common one reported
  • Recipient details entered incorrectly
  • The transfer is simply still in progress — you cannot cancel it once started, so patience is needed here

How to fix it:

  1. Open the app, go to Activity, and check the status plus the visual tracking map.
  2. If you're asked to verify: upload a valid, unexpired ID that clearly shows your details, from inside the app.
  3. If the address on your ID doesn't match your account, send a recent utility bill or bank statement instead.
  4. Contact support through Menu → Contact us in the app for a direct answer.

How to Contact Support Fast

App Where to Chat Email What I Found on Response Time
LemFi In-app: Help → Report an Issue support@lemfi.com Often same day
Sendwave In-app chat (24/7) Via "Contact us" in app Usually a few hours
Wise In-app chat Via app or wise.com contact page A few hours; longer for document reviews
Remitly In-app chat, "Where are the funds?" tool Via in-app Help Center 24/7, often same day
TapTap Send In-app: Menu → Contact us Via app 1-2 business days for ID reviews

These times are based on my research and user reports, not official guarantees — always check the app itself for your specific case, since response times can change.

How to Avoid Delay Next Time - 5 Pro Tips

  1. Double-check recipient details before you press send — full name, bank, and the exact 10-digit account number. This alone prevents most delays.
  2. Don't send at the last minute for school fees or rent. Send a day or two early, especially for your first transfer on a new app.
  3. Keep your ID verification updated in every app you use, before an urgent transfer, not during one.
  4. Avoid sending late Friday if your family needs it urgently — weekends slow down bank processing on both sides.
  5. If asked for source of funds, respond fast with a payslip or bank statement. Users I spoke with said ignoring this request was the single biggest cause of long delays.

Final Word

Most transfers that show "pending" are not lost — they're just waiting on a check, a bank, or a document from you. Respond quickly to any request from the app, and in almost every case explained here, the money moves within 24 hours.
